At least 1500 additional police needed to fight terror

Gerrit van de Kamp, head of the police trade union (ACP) says that at present the Dutch police cannot cope effectively with terror.  He added that at least another 1500 policemen are needed, of which 500-600 are required in support functions, such as detective services.  After the murderous Paris attacks in January, Van de Kamp requested more heavy weaponry for the police, but was turned down by the government.  He said policemen wanted to be sure they could defend themselves.  He also said that policemen should be allowed to take their weapons home.
